FOXZB XBee/RS485 add-on board
Warning
FOXZB Board is discontinued.
FOXZB is an add-on board to adapt a MaxStream XBee module, a RS485 bus, a MMC/SD memory card, a Sensirion SHT71/75 humidity and temperature sensor and
a Real Time Clock circuitry with Li-ion battery
|
FOXZB is an add-on board for the FOX Board equipped with:
- A placement for a MaxStream XBee or XBeePRO module.
- An half-duplex RS485 interface
- A MMC/SD memory card socket
- A placement for Sensirion SHT71/75 humidity and temperature sensor
- A Real Time Clock circuitry with Li-ion battery
The size of this board is right the same of FOX Board and it is designed to be
mounted over the top side of the FOX Board as shown on the photo below:

XBee section
MaxStream XBee and XBeePRO "..are ZigBee/IEEE 802.15.4 compliant OEM modules that
satisfy the unique needs of low-cost, low-power wireless sensor networks.
The modules are easy-to-use, require minimal power and provide reliable delivery of critical
data between devices. Its small form factor saves valuable board space..."
(see the
http://www.maxstream.net
web site).
These modules work as radio modems on the /dev/ttyS2 serial port with a huge set of AT commands.
The signal lines used to link to the FOX Board are shown in the following diagram:
XBee module and FOX Board wires
XBee serial input has an autobaud rate detection system so to comunicate with it just set the OG5 line
on to avoid to force the reset line (active low) with the command:
# setbits -p g -b 5 -s 1
and open the serial port /dev/ttyS2 (see Using serial ports in C).
To test if the radio link works you can use a XBee to USB board (code XBEEUSB) with another XBee module
connected to a PC. At startup the two modules will link together without any further setting to
emulate a direct serial link.
MMC/SD section
The MMC/SD memory card holder is wired to the FOX Board as explained on Connect a MMC or SD card memory. We tried this socket
with SD cards up to 2GB 150x.
